As manager of a gardening shop Kutarō was very knowledgeable about plants. In 1898 he edited a picture book entitled Shakuyaku Kafu (Peony Flower Record) which illustrated 24 varieties of the common garden peony (Paeonia lactiflora). These peony pictures are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Each variety is drawn accurately. Unfortunately, the name of the artist who drew these pictures is not given.
