Bairei included full-color drawings of two hundred flowering plants in a woodblock-printed book entitled Chigusa no Hana (i.e., Flowers of a Thousand Varieties), which was published in 1890-1891. The first twenty-five of these pictures are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Not only were the flowers drawn and colored accurately but some written information about each of the flowers was also provided, presumably so the book’s purchasers could use it as an identification guide.
