Edited by Gessai Fukui and published in 1898, a picture book entitled Kinsei Meika Kachō Gafu (i.e., Picture Album of Flowers and Birds by Famous Painters of Recent Times) included woodblock-printed copies of twelve pictures drawn by prominent Japanese artists active in the late 1800s.
