 |
Sessai Hattori (1807-?) was the artist for a picture book entitled Yūyō Shokubutsu Zusetsu (Useful Plant Illustrations). This book was compiled by Yoshio Tanaka and Shogaku Ono and it was published in 1891. Sessai drew his 1015 plant subjects accurately because these pictures were intended to help viewers recognize these useful plants. Many of the scientific plant names given by Sessai are no longer used. Currently used names are given below the pictures. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
