Shunsen was the adopted son and pupil of Shumboku Ōoka who authored a large number of woodblock-printed picture books about art. Shunsen also illustrated picture books. This gallery shows the twenty-six pictures of flowers that he included in volume three of a 1755 picture book entitled Ehon Fukujusō (i.e., Adonis Picture Book). Click on a picture to enlarge it. Shunsen drew the shapes of the flowers accurately but not their colors because multi-color printing was rarely attempted at that time in Japan.
